I re-baby-proofed the living room by taking down the stereo system and placing the old x-box where they couldn't get to it. Yesterday I didn't want Ruby falling on her face anymore so I placed a blanket at one edge of the living room and a pillow at the other. I also placed a baby gate on the two other entrances to the kitchen. For the most part Layla seems pretty content to just hang out on the floor playing with toys whereas Ruby usually has a toy in her hand while she pulls herself up or crawls around the house. Ruby loves mirrors right now. Last week she had a little mirror in her hand and she was talking to herself and making funny faces for quite a while. Her new thing is to scrunch her face up and clench her fist in the air. Its so cute we don't know where she got it from. Layla doesn't have any silly faces but she's still easy going and easy to smile. When strangers come up to us when we're out she's always the first to give a nice big grin whereas Ruby spends time checking you out for a little while and then decides to smile.
Yesterday we left the girls with our neighbor Shar so that I could drop my car off at the mechanic. I was in the middle of feeding the girls dinner and so Shar took my place in the chair and attempted to feed Layla a bite. Layla just barely opened her mouth wide enough to take the bite but then she realized that I was leaving and she burst into tears. Shar just told me to head out and not worry about the details. Apparently Ruby joined in for a chorus of cries but they eventually calmed down and were good for the remainder of the hour. Ruby doesn't walk assisted yet but Larry saw her standing at the couch and she let go with one and wanted to go to the ottoman. So she let go with the other hand and fell on her belly.
Sleeping is still going wonderfully. The girls demolished the divider I had created so I made up something else to divide the bed but they ruined that right away so I gave up on it all together and they're sleeping just fine. When we got them up this morning they were snuggled right up next to each other at the far end of the crib with their legs dangling out. They usually go to bed around 8pm and sleep until 6:30 am, then I feed them and put them right back in bed after a diaper change. They take two pretty good naps during the day which makes a lot of sense since they're much more physically active these days.
Feeding times are going much more quickly and I can't believe how much food they're eating.
At breakfast time I give them fruit with yogurt, recently it has been bananas with peaches or apples. For lunch and dinner I feed them a combination of veggies with chicken and yogurt. Yesterday I added spinach to the mix but as they don't like savory foods yet I mix the spinach with carrots. I was just making a bowl of food and when that was finished I didn't offer more but they should be drinking less milk so I'm going to feed them until they stop with the goal of them drinking no more than 24 ounces of milk a day.
We put up our pool last week and since it has been crazy warm lately we were able to bring the girls in and they LOVED it. I was hoping and praying I would have a couple water babies!
In other news. The company Larry does the majority of subcontracting for lost a huge account which calculates to a pretty hefty loss to our pocketbook. Then on Saturday my car wouldn't start while Larry was at the store so he got a jump and drove it over to a mechanic who determined three things, 1) the battery is no good, 2)there's an oil leak, 3) the oil has leaked onto the alternator and ruined it. Larry had them install a new battery and asked me to contact my longtime trustworthy mechanic. This is why we had to take my car to the mechanic and we should have an estimate on the work some time today. We're praying for more work and the money to pay for the repairs on my car and all of our other financial obligations.

Ultimate Peek-a-boo! We love that game!
We've had Ben sleeping in my mom's sewing room, which doesn't have a window, just because there's no where else to put him while Lauren is here. For the past two mornings I went in and woke him up at about 8:30, and he's going to bed at 8:30! He was doing the same thing as your girls when he was in bedroom - waking up with the sun, eating and then going right back to sleep. Maybe if you could figure out some way to darken their room you wouldn't have to get up so early!
